ORLANDO, Fla. – Chicago-style foods are beloved by many, and the Chicago-based fast-casual restaurant chain Portillo’s has unveiled a sacred honor for the newly-elected leader of the Catholic Church.
Behold “The Leo,” an Italian beef named after Pope Leo XIV, the first pope from the United States.

Portillo’s announced the new menu item on its social media channels Friday with the description, “In the name of the gravy, the bun, and hot giard – we introduce The Leo: divinely seasoned Italian Beef, baptized in gravy."

Born Robert Francis Prevost, the 69-year-old Chicago native took the name Pope Leo XIV after being elected by the College of Cardinals on Thursday.
As of Friday, the Portillo’s app had already updated its menu to feature “The Leo”, which costs $8.29.
“The Leo” will be available all May long, timely for Italian Beef Month.
Throughout the month, Portillo’s is giving fans reasons to celebrate the iconic sandwich, like a buy one, get one free regular Italian Beef offer for all Portillo’s Perks members.
