A NASA astronaut will celebrate his 70th birthday on Earth after spending more than 200 days in space.

NASA astronaut Don Pettit, along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner, flew home aboard the Soyuz MS-26 spacecraft on Saturday.

The crew undocked from the International Space Station’s Rassvet module before a parachute-assisted landing in Kazakhstan.

In a ceremony on Friday, Ovchinin handed over command of the station to JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi for Expedition 73.

During their mission, Pettit and his crewmates spent 220 days in space, orbiting the Earth 3,520 times and traveling a total of 93.3 million miles. The Soyuz MS-26 spacecraft launched and docked with the station on Sept. 11.

This mission marks Pettit’s fourth spaceflight, where he served as flight engineer for Expeditions 71 and 72. He has accumulated a career total of 590 days in orbit. Ovchinin also completed his fourth flight, totaling 595 days, while Vagner has spent 416 days in space over two missions.
