OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A woman who died after being struck by an SUV early Saturday in Osceola County had fallen while running across a road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 12:08 a.m. on U.S. 17-92 (Orange Blossom Trail) at The Oaks Boulevard, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 32-year-old Georgia woman — was crossing U.S. 17-92 from the east shoulder to the west shoulder when she was struck by the SUV. Though she was reportedly in a marked crosswalk, troopers said that “the do not cross symbol” was being displayed when the crash happened.

The Georgia woman ran across U.S. 17-92 and fell onto the ground in the outside southbound lane, the report states. A 2005 Toyota Highlander traveling southbound in the same lane — driven by an 18-year-old Kissimmee woman — then struck the Georgia woman as a result, troopers said.

The Georgia woman was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the report. The Kissimmee woman was not injured and remained at the scene, the report states.

FHP is still investigating.
