VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Just because the final bell of the school year has rung doesn’t mean our focus on education and safety hits pause.

In fact, the summer months give us a crucial opportunity to reflect, plan, and get ahead of the curve before the next school year begins.

That’s exactly what we’re doing in a special livestream as we welcome two key leaders who help shape the future of Volusia County’s students, both in and out of the classroom: Dr. Carmen Balgobin, Superintendent of Volusia County Schools, and Captain Todd Smith, Commander of School Safety.

Together, we’re taking a look back at the school year that just wrapped — the challenges, the successes, and the changes. We’ll also dive into new policies and improvements coming to the district, including those aimed at creating safer, more supportive environments for both students and staff.

And because summertime comes with its own unique concerns, we’ll tackle some important topics to keep in mind while school’s out. From safety around school campuses and summer programs, to traffic near youth activity centers and tips for families during travel season — it’s all about making sure our communities stay protected and prepared.

This isn’t just a wrap-up — it’s a look forward. While school may be out, our commitment to safety and student success is always in session.
