Driver accused of DUI in Marion County crash that killed bicyclist, FHP says

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 37-year-old Ocala man riding a bicycle in Marion County was struck and killed by car whose driver, Janice Shwarz, 34, was then arrested, accused of DUI, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 1:56 a.m. Saturday on State Road 25, just west of its intersection with SE 80th Court, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the car was traveling westbound on S.R. 25 when it struck the bicyclist, who was traveling westbound in the north shoulder.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue, the report states.

Shwarz was arrested and faces four counts of DUI with property damage and one count of DUI manslaughter, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
