Motorcyclist killed in Lake County crash on SR-33

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a pickup truck in Lake County on Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 12 p.m. at State Road 33 and Pine Island Road in Groveland.

According to a cash report, a Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle was traveling south on S.R. 33 approaching Pine Island Road.

At the same time, a Ford F-250 was traveling south on S.R. 33 approaching Pine Island Road ahead of the motorcycle.

Troopers said the motorcyclist began to pass traffic in a no-passing zone when the pickup truck started to make a left turn in attempt to travel east on Pine Island Road.

According to the report, the front of the motorcycle then struck the left side of pickup truck which caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from the bike.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 28-year-old Lakeland man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup truck driver, identified as a 63-year-old Inverness woman, was taken to South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
