KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A 40-year-old woman was struck and killed while jogging Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run crash in Kissimmee, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal wreck happened around 6:20 a.m. on Florida Parkway near Birchwood Circle.
The FHP said the woman entered a crosswalk while jogging when she was struck by a pickup truck that was turning left and failed to stop.
The Kissimmee woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was identified as Nahal Vafaei Azimi, according to an FHP arrest report.
The driver, later identified by troopers as Jairo Pena Espana, 21, of Honduras, fled the scene but was later located and arrested.
According to an FHP arrest report, Espana told troopers that he felt a bump but didn’t know what it was.
Espana faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving without a license.
