Car gets engulfed in flames after crash into guardrail on I-95 in Brevard County

Crash happened near mile marker 183

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A car caught fire Monday evening after crashing into a guardrail on Interstate 95 in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 9:10 p.m. near mile marker 183, near Melbourne. Southbound lanes were blocked due to the wreck.

Video of the scene showed fire and smoke billowing up from the highway.

According to the FHP, a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox struck the guardrail and become engulfed in flames. The driver, a 55-year-old Melbourne man, was taken to the hospital.

An investigation is ongoing.
